There are numerous Mandarin Chinese self-learning Apps already on the market, some bog-standard and some quite awesome. While not a substitute for in-depth classroom or immersion programs, they can be a useful addition to your learning toolbox to reinforce or even speed up your language learning. The three things I look for in a language App are: User-friendliness, Active learning, and Progressive levels.
User-friendliness – It was easy to use in terms of it’s simple design.
Active learning – Written Chinese phrases were presented in Chinese characters, Pinyan and English along with audio recordings.
Progressive levels – The SOUx App arranges its materials progressively in that mastery of one level is the key to opening access to the next level, so this guides the user nicely through the material.
